Lab paper accepted

A new paper has been accepted in Personality and Individual Differences led by lab alum Paul Pluymen and co-authored by lab alumni Allison Pequet and Hailey Thomas.  In the study, people completed a chat task in which they could choose to learn about the other person, share about themselves, or opt out to learn a non-social trivia fact. We randomly paired these options with different small amounts of money.  We found that, on average, people we willing to give up money in order to socially engage with others and that a greater willingness to learn about others (versus share about oneself) predicted lower narcissism and social media use. Paul and Hailey are both pursing graduate studies at Texas State. Paul is a student in the Texas State Masters in Professional Counseling Program and Hailey is completing her Masters in Human Development with a Child Life Specialist concentration. This fall, Allison will be starting her PhD in School Psychology at Tulane University. This team has been working on this project since 2017 and we so proud to see it published!
